Painted house on 7th

Finally. A new image on the home page after 3? 4? years. I don't really know how long this web site has been up. Figured I should get a picture of our red house up on redhouseon7th.com.

Chris and I painted the house this fall. We painted only the old part, not the addition. I took a week off work thinking that's all I'd need . . . tune in 6 weeks later and we were still working on it. I thought I could do the whole thing myself. Boy was I wrong. I would have never finished without Chris. She painted the bottom and I painted the top. I overcame whatever fear of ladders I had. Dropped the ladder on to myself only once with just a bruise. Miraculous.

We use Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint with Nanoguard from Home Depot. It cost about $12 more a gallon than the Premium Plus. We used about 6 gallons between red and white paints. It covered very well and dried quickly. It's a paint and primer in one. There were places we found peeling after we had done our spot prime. Having the all-in-one paint, we just hit the bare spots with paint only. Fingers crossed it holds like the primered wood. If those nano things hold on to the house one year longer than the old paint, it was worth it.

One big tip on a dark colored house. TINT YOUR PRIMER! We had to do 2-3 coats to completely cover our white spot prime.

See me putting our Rainhandlers back on? Doesn't look high, but it is when you're up there. We don't always have ghosts out. This was taken in October. Photo by: Avery Pieronek.
